Gabriel was born in Edinburgh and grew up in the Scottish Borders…

Gabriel started working as a journalist in the London bureau of ABC News when she was nineteen years old. Her TV career led her from ABC to Bloomberg and BBC World News TV and World Service Radio.

In 2010, she did her first travel piece for CNN when producing a programme on Mexico for BBC HARDtalk. After the London Olympics in 2012, she moved to Santiago de Chile where she lived for five years, and where her children were born.

As a small child, Gabriel carried books around before she could read, and wrote a diary each night. A family joke runs that one day these diaries will be published and all secrets aired…
